Magdaleno Diego Mercado Gutiérrez (born April 4, 1944 in La Experiencia , Jalisco ; † March 6, 2020 ) was a Mexican football player who emerged from the youth department of the CD Imperio and was a professional footballer with Atlas Guadalajara . From 1991 he acted as a talent scout for his former club Atlas for more than ten years .

Mercado made his debut in the Mexican national team in an eight-minute match against Chile (1-0) on May 11, 1966 and his first full international match against the same opponent (also 1-0) on May 29, 1966.

Mercado was also part of the Mexican World Cup squad at the 1966 World Cup , where he played the preliminary rounds against France (1: 1) and Uruguay (0: 0).
