Magdeburg Way

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Magdeburger Weg is a hiking trail in the Lower Saxony part of the Harz Mountains between the Dammgraben east of Altenau and the Torfhaus settlement in the Goslar district . It is located directly in the Harz National Park and geographically and historically in the Upper and High Harz Mountains . It is part of the Harz Hexenstieges . The path is best known for the section halfway up through the steep wall, the north-eastern steep slope of the Bruchberg . This area is also known as the Steile-Wand-Kar. From there, there is a view of the Waldkessel in the valley and the transmission and directional radio masts above at Torfhaus.

history

The Magdeburger Weg was created on behalf of the Magdeburg branch of the Harz Club, which was founded on September 3, 1889 in the capital of the Prussian province of Saxony . The Magdeburg battalion, which had already laid out a similar path in the Eckertal , was specially commissioned to do this. The construction costs amounted to 1,000 marks, which were raised by the Harz Club branch association. The Magdeburger Weg was completed in 1893 and from then on it was used extensively by tourists and locals.

The way has been prepared by Harzklub called 10G marked. Today the route has a red dot in a white triangle to mark the way next to the witch symbol for the Hexenstieg. The walking time between Torfhaus and Altenau was estimated to be two hours.

The number of tourists hiking on the Magdeburger Weg has increased significantly after it became part of the Harzer Hexenstieges in 2007 . If there is slippery snow or ice, special care is required when walking on the path, as it is sometimes relatively narrow and leads over numerous stones and roots, which can be quite slippery and slippery in parts.

Tourist features

One of the special features of the Magdeburger Weg, in addition to the Nabentaler waterfall, is the Krone-Blick , which was named after Gustav Krone, the co-founder of the Magdeburg Harz Club branch and forty-year-old member. A metal plaque was erected at the place of the view of the Krone, which enables the current situation to be compared with a postcard from 1939.

The tailor's bench under a ledge not far from the view of the Krone is reminiscent of the secret building officer Schneider from Magdeburg, who was chairman of the Harz Club branch associations when the Magdeburger Weg was laid out in 1893. On one side of the bank is a metal plaque with the inscription GEHEIMRAT SCHNEIDER BANK H.-K.-Zw.VM

Closure of the way

The Magdeburger Weg has not been passable since the end of October 2017 as a result of the Herwart hurricane . The hurricane Friederike in January 2018 caused further significant relocations of the route . The Harz National Park , which had been responsible for the maintenance of the path since its foundation, declared in July 2018 that the restoration of the Magdeburger Weg will not be possible due to the extensive damage that not only includes fallen trees, but also rocks and landslides, because it is too dangerous for the employees and future hikers can be endangered again and again by rock and landslides. At the moment there is a diversion via the Wolfswarte . We are thinking of creating a more attractive diversion via the Blochschleifegraben. Protests are stirring about this decision.
