Magnús Á. Árnason

Magnús Ársæll Árnason (born December 28, 1894 Narfakot near Innri- Njarðvík ; † August 13, 1980 ) was an Icelandic painter , sculptor , composer and translator .

Life

Magnús Á. Árnason was the son of the farmer and teacher Árni Pálsson and his wife Sigríður Magnúsdóttir.

From 1912 to 1913 he studied at the Technical College in Copenhagen , where Thorsen was his teacher. From 1918 to 1922 he continued his studies at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco , where he was a student of the painters Lee Randolph and Spencer Macky and the sculptor Ralph Stackpole .

From 1924 to 1926 he studied at the Arrillaga Musical College in San Francisco with the composer George Edwards (1884-1925). The college was founded in 1875 by the Spanish pianist and composer Santiago Arrillaga y Ansola (1847-1915).

Magnús Á. Árnason was one of the founders of the Icelandic Visual Artists Association (FÍM).

Magnús Á. Since 1937 Árnason was married to the artist Barbara Árnason (1911–1977), a native of England.

The Art Museum in Kópavogur has an extensive collection of his paintings .
