Magnus Heunicke (born January 28, 1975 in Næstved ) is a Danish politician of the Social Democrats . From February 2014 to June 2015 he was Minister of Transport in the Thorning-Schmidt II cabinet . Since June 2019 he has been Minister of Health in the Frederiksen government .

Life

Origin and education

Heunicke is the son of the former mayor of his hometown Næstved Henning Jensen. Heunicke trained as a journalist in Aarhus from 1998 to 2002 . Between 2001 and 2005 he then worked as a journalist at Danmarks Radio (DR).

Political career

Heunicke moved into the Danish parliament, the Folketing , for the first time in the 2005 election . Since then he has represented the Sjælland region . From August 13, 2013 to February 2, 2014 he was a so-called state auditor . As such, it was his job to ensure that the tax money is used as decided by Parliament.

On February 3, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Transport under Helle Thorning-Schmidt . Before that, he was his party's transport policy spokesman. He held the office until June 28, 2015. After the 2019 election , he was appointed Minister of Health and Seniors on June 27, 2019.
