Bust of King Maximilian II on the Magnus step

The Magnus step is a single monument in Füssen in the Ostallgäu district . The monument stands at the Lechfall on Tiroler Straße. There are two shoe-shaped depressions with the designation 1726 . The iron cross is marked 1730 and has accompanying figures. In the opposite rock there is a monument with the bust of King Maximilian II . This bust is labeled 1866 and was donated by the city of Füssen according to the inscription.

According to legend, St. Magnus , fleeing from his pagan persecutors , jumped across the Lech at this point. The so-called Magnus step , a petrified shell, was interpreted in popular belief as its footprint. Pilgrimages led to the Magnustritt until 1920, but for Alfred Weitnauer it was only a giant tertiary oyster.
