The Mahler Spur is a 10 km long mountain ridge in the northern part of Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 11 km east of the southern end of Debussy Heights and extends west into the Mozart Piedmont Glacier .
It was discovered from the air and roughly mapped in 1937 during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) were used by the British geographer Derek Searle from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960 for a more precise mapping. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the ridge in 1961 after the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911).
