Mains of Pittendrum House

Mains of Pittendrum House is a farmhouse in the Scottish village of Sandhaven in the Aberdeenshire Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Mains of Pittendrum House was built in 1734 by the Cumine family . In 1787, the Scottish banker William Forbes, 6th Baronet, acquired the property along with surrounding lands. In the late 19th century the windows of the farmhouse were enlarged and its interior redesigned.

description

The farmhouse is isolated on the southern edge of the small town. The two-story building with a loft and flanking one-story wings is simply Georgian in design. The wings are rounded to the west-facing main facade, so that a roughly U-shaped floor plan is created. Unlike the two-story central component, their facades are plastered with Harl , with natural stone surrounds being set off.

The facades of the main building are symmetrical and are three axes wide. The central, two-winged entrance door dates from the later 19th century. A segment-arched cornice with a sculpted thistle and rose in the tympanum crowns the portal. The windows of the mansard floor are designed as portholes . The final roofs are covered with slate.
