Mais al-Jabal ( Arabic ميس الجبل, DMG Mays al-Ǧabal , also Meis el Jabal , Mais el Jabal , Mays el Jabal , Meis al Jabal or Meis el Jebel , usually also with a hyphen between el / al and Jabal / Jebel ) is a city in the Nabatäa governorate in southern Lebanon on the border with Israel .

The city has an estimated population of 10,000. Since Lebanon has not conducted an official census since 1932 , the exact population is unknown. In 1978 the Israeli army invaded Lebanon and besides Tire occupied southern Lebanon as far as the Litani River . Mais al-Jabal was also occupied. In 1982 Israel invaded Lebanon again and took part in the Lebanese civil war. The city was then occupied by Israel between 1982 and 2000 . When Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000 after 18 years of presence, Hezbollah took control of the city. During the 2006 Lebanon War , the city was the site of repeated ground fighting between Tzahal and Hezbollah.

The village borders the villages of Houla, Chakra and Blida.
