The Maison de la Lieutenance in Cognac , a French town in the Charente department ( France ), was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. The half-timbered house at Rue Grande Nr. 7, 1933 as a monument ( Monument historique protected).

history

The building, constructed from the end of the 15th century, was named after its first resident, Lieutenant General Pierre de Lacombe, who lived here from 1603 to 1624. The house was moved a few meters from its original location in 1865.

architecture

On a ground floor made of stone there are two storeys in half-timbered construction, each of which protrudes. Most of the basement is vaulted . The large arched window on the gable side was broken through during a renovation in the 20th century. The framework has many carvings depicting people, human heads and animals. Inside are wall paintings from the 17th century depicting birds and plants.
