Majid Jafari Tabar

Majid Jafari Tabār ( Persian مجید جعفری تبار Majid Jafari Tabar , DMG Majid Jafari Tabār ; * 1961 in Qom , Iran ) is a Shiite clergyman with the religious title Ayatollah , Koran reciter and Koran exegete .

He studied at the Islamic Theological College of Qom ( Hawza ) and became a very wise exegete . Jafari Tabar founded a center for Islamic theology and Koran teaching in the Iranian city of Qom . He is so influential, especially among young people, that Hassan Rouhani , the President of Iran, met him during his 2013 campaign trip to Qom.

Indictment and conviction

Majid Jafari Tabar has been detained since July 2014 on charges of apostasy . He was sentenced to death in a secret trial by the Special Court for the Clergy . His wife Fatemeh Managheb and some of his confidants and students were also sentenced to death and several years in prison.
