Mako Depression

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Makó Depression is part of the Pannonian Basin in the southeastern part of Hungary near the cities of Makó and Szeged .

The gas field located there is considered to be one of the largest gas discoveries in Europe since the discovery of the Groningen field in 1959. However, since it is an unconventional gas field, ie the gas lies at depths below 3000 meters, the possibilities of commercial development are still being explored.

According to an independent report from the RPS Scotia Group in March 2008, the Makó sink holds up to 700 billion cubic meters of gas with a probability of 90%. If this information can be confirmed in the course of the test drilling, which has been carried out by ExxonMobil in cooperation with the Hungarian mineral oil company MOL and the Canadian company Falcon Oil & Gas since the beginning of 2009 , Hungary could cover its own gas requirements as early as 2014 and beyond Export gas to neighboring European countries.
