Makali (dish)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Makali is a vegetarian dish from Lebanese cuisine. They are vegetables of various types.

description

The vegetables are cut into slices and fried in oil. Makali often consists of a mixture of cauliflower, aubergine, bell pepper and potatoes, but it can also be supplemented with other vegetables such as zucchini. In rare cases, the vegetables are fried with a batter. Makali is spiced little - except with salt - it serves more as a side dish and addition to the actual dish. For example, a meat-based shawarma is often supplemented with makali.

In Lebanese restaurants or snack bars, the term "Makali" in combination with other terms such as "plate" or "sandwich" indicates that it is a meatless vegetable dish. The fried vegetables are either part of a starter plate (" mezze ") or part of a vegetarian shawarma . In vegetarian dishes Makali is happy with halloumi combined. In some cases, Makali is also served as a vegan main course with salad, bread and tahini.
