Makasar

Makasar is a district or district ( Kecamatan ) of East Jakarta (Jakarta Timur) in the Jakarta Province . It has an area of ​​21.64 km² and 157,261 inhabitants (as of 2000). The Makasar subdistrict is bordered by Kali Malang to the north, the Sunter River to the east , the Jagorawi motorway to the west and Taman Mini 2 to the south .

history

The area formerly known as "Kampung Makasar" (village of the Makassars) includes today's district or Kelurahan Makasar and part of Kelurahan Kebon Pala and Kecamatan Kramat Jati . It was named Kampung Makasar because the Macassars settled there in 1686 under the leadership of Captain Daeng Matara. They were former prisoners of war who were brought to Batavia (now Jakarta) after the Gowa Kingdom and its King Sultan Hasanuddin were defeated by the United East India Company (VOC) together with their allies.
