Makhdoom Shahabuddin
Makhdoom Shahabuddin (born April 7, 1947 in Punjab ) is a Pakistani politician of the Pakistani People's Party (PPP). He was the health and textile minister in his country and has been a member of the National Assembly since February 2008 (as of June 2012).
In the course of the impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani , the PPP, its coalition partners and President Asif Ali Zardari agreed on June 21, 2012 on Shahabuddin as his successor. Just hours after the announcement, an arrest warrant was issued against Shahabuddin for an alleged drug offense. He is said to have been involved in importing an illegal drug during his tenure as Minister of Health in 2010. For this reason, Raja Pervez Ashraf was nominated as a replacement candidate and was elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan on June 22, 2012.
