Makroud ( Arabic مقروض, DMG maqrūḍ orمقروط / maqrūṭ ), also macroude , macroudh or macrout , is a type of pastry that is prepared in Tunisia , Libya and Algeria .

The Tunisian city of Kairouan is particularly known for the production of Makroud. On May 20, 2008, the first national festival of the Macroud was celebrated.

preparation

Macrouds are made by coating with a paste of durum wheat semolina and made with a filling of dates , figs or sometimes almonds . The whole is then rolled and cut in the shape of diamonds or triangles and usually deep-fried in vegetable oil before cooking. The macrouds are then dipped in a honey-like syrup made from sugar and lemon or orange peel . It is served cold at the end.
