The small, uninhabited island of Mal di Ventre (German: Bauchweh) is eight kilometers from the Sinis Peninsula of Sardinia . It is 1.6 km long and 400 m wide. The surrounding water is a marine reserve with a rich marine fauna. There are fairytale beaches on the east side. The west of the island is characterized by rugged granite rocks , in which rare bird species nest. Due to the remote location, an almost intact ecosystem has been preserved on the island. In winter the island with its wide rosemary areas is used as a sheep pasture.
A double nuraghe on Cala del Nuraghe (the eastern beach) is a sign of the island's prehistoric use. Settlement remains from the Punic and Roman times have been preserved.
