Malakand

Malakand is a region in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province .

Inhabitants and geography

The region is mostly inhabited by Pashtun tribes and is divided into the districts of Malakand , Chitral , Dir, Swat , Buner and Shangla .

history

As a late aftermath of the Second Anglo-Afghan War , there was an uprising in Malakand in 1897 by around 10,000 Pashtun tribal warriors. The later British Prime Minister Winston Churchill also served in the relief troops that lifted the siege of the British garrison .
