Malapert is an impact crater on the front of the Moon near the South Pole, southwest of Scott Crater and northeast of Cabeus . The elongated, irregularly shaped crater is heavily eroded. The interior, which is mostly in the shade due to its location near the South Pole, is also furrowed from numerous subsequent impacts.
