history
In 2015 the village celebrated its 800th anniversary. It was mentioned in a document in 1215 as an episcopal property of the Diocese of Lübeck and performed court services for Gut Rothensande until the 18th century . From 1776 the village community paid an annual fee to replace the court services. In World War II, 20 Malkwitzer died. In 1967 the Malkwitz Beautification Association was founded. Malkwitz was dominated by agriculture until the 1970s, when eight farms were still in operation. From 2008 to 2018 Norbert Neu was head of the village. A memorial stone made of red granite was erected in Malkwitz in 2015 to mark the 800th anniversary.
Ingenhof
The Ingenhof is located in the center of Malkwitz . The house was built in 1868 in the classical style, initially only on one storey. The farm name can be traced back to the then owner Karl Max Helbig. It was already in 1908 in the large barn belonging to the farm. In 1923 August Schröder added one floor to the house. In 1927 it passed to Wilhelm Bernsau. His son's widow married the farmer Oskar Engel in 1950. The third generation of the Engel family has been running the farm since 2012. In 1968 the farm buildings burned down in a fire caused by a lightning strike . The residential buildings remained undamaged. The farm buildings were then rebuilt.
Today, among other things, strawberries are grown on the lands . Since 2008, viticulture has also been practiced on a southern slope . Another branch of the economy is vacation rental.
Sports
Club sports have been practiced in Malkwitz since 1931, when the Malkwitz sports club was founded. It stopped its activities because of the Second World War in 1939. In 1946 the Grün-Weiß Malkwitz sports club was founded, which was particularly successful in large field handball and gymnastics. In 1968 Grün-Weiß Malkwitz merged with SV Sieversdorf-Neukirchen in the TSV village community "Holstein Switzerland".
