The acid lake inside the crater |
The Maly Semjatschik ( Russian Малый Семячик ) is a volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia .
The ridge of the mountain has a length of 3 kilometers with three craters . Its height is 1560 meters.
The southern crater, the Troitski ( Троицкий ), is remarkable because it contains a 180 meters deep turquoise acid lake with a diameter of around 550 meters. About 170-200 meters below the rim of the crater there is an approximately round crater lake with a diameter of 510 to 590 meters, which consists of sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid in high concentrations. The water temperature is between 27 and 42 degrees Celsius.
A descent to the lake is possible in good weather, but acid vapors do not allow a longer stay near the shore.
