Mamá Vudú is an Ecuadorian alternative rock band founded in Quito in 1992 .

style

Initially influenced by punk , the band quickly broke away from this direction. It continued to develop stylistically and was now comparable to English post-punk or American no-wave , but combined with a specifically Latin American note.

By their own account, their music is influenced by bands like Joy Division , The Smiths , Sonic Youth , Radiohead , Fugazi and the Pixies .

history

In 1995 her first album Tropical Brea was released . After the EP Estación Polar was released in 1998, the following year they had the opportunity to play for the first time with well-known bands such as Lucybell , the Babasónicos , La Ley and Volume 0 at the Rock desde el Volcan festival .

In 2000 the album Luna Lombriz was released , on which the song Incéndialo todo , which was successful in Ecuador , was released. The album Aeroclub , released the following year, also contained various songs that became hits in the Andean country, B. Vortex , Espuma Negra and Ladrando .

Her fourth album Macrosensor , released in 2004, was named one of the 50 best new releases of 2004 by the Latin American edition of the music magazine Rolling Stone .

Mamá Vudú is one of the most important alternative / independent bands from Ecuador . She also shows her role as a pioneer of the alternative Ecuadorian music scene with her latest release, the EP Clínica de Santos y Muñecas , which she made available as a "virtual EP" free of charge on her website , probably following the example of Radioheads .
