Mamercus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mamercus (abbreviated Mam. ) Was a Roman name - rarely also a first name - which was derived as a subsidiary form of Marcus von Mamers , a form of Mars used by Oskern and Sabiners according to Verrius Flaccus and Varro .

Mamercus was also an alleged son of Pythagoras , to whom the Roman patrician family of the Aemilians traced back - he was called "Aemylos" or "Aimilios" due to his eloquence ( Greek : "engaging", "winning", "clever"). Another version handed down by Plutarch says that Mamercus was a son of King Numa Pompilius .

The name Mamercus was borne by a branch of the Aemilians ( Aemilii Mamerci or Aemilii Mamercini ) as an epithet ( cognomen ).
