View of the Jakobs- und Heiliggeistkirche

Manapad is a strongly Catholic place. Saint Francis Xavier stayed in Manapad in 1542 and initiated the missionary work of the Paravar fishing caste there. Today several large church buildings shape the appearance of the fishing village. The Heiligkreuzkirche ( Holy Cross Church ) from 1581 is located on a headland directly on the sea coast. It is said to house a fragment of the Holy Cross . The public display of the relic attracts thousands of pilgrims every September. In the center of the village there are two church buildings in the historicizing style in the immediate vicinity , the towers of which tower over the village: the Holy Ghost Church from 1851 and the St. James Church from 1929.
