Manatees are a post metal band from Carlisle , UK .
Band history
The band was formed from three members of the band SecondtoLast , who split up after they left Lockjaw Records. Her debut album was recorded at both Oldwell and Fisher Street Studios and released in 2006 by Motive Sound Recordings under the title The Forever Ending Jitter Quest of Slowhand Chuckle Walker: An Introduction to the Manatee . This was followed by the self-produced EP We Are Going to Track Down and Kill Vintage Claytahh, The Beard Burning Bastard (2007) and a split LP with The Freezing Fog (2008). In 2009 the second album Icarus, the Sunclimber was released .
Music genre
Manatee is the English name for manatees , a name which also refers to the style of music. Based on the manatees, the record company described the band on the promo note for their debut album as “heavy and yet floating in the water and elegant, the manatees are the perfect embodiment of this music.” The band's music is set in the lower tempi . Similar to Neurosis , Manatee plays a mixture of Doom Metal , Post-Hardcore and Post-Rock known as Post-Metal , which is occasionally loosened up by acoustic guitars , noise and ambient elements. In some cases, garbage cans and fire extinguishers are also used as “instruments” . However, the majority of the songs are kept monotonous and based on a wall of sound , which is characterized by harshness and noise. The singing is a guttural roar , with a slightly distorted voice. The compositions are often very long, sometimes 10–15 minutes.
