Manfred Bues (economist)

Manfred Bues is a German economist, manager, author and board member who teaches as a professor for business informatics in Germany and Vietnam .

Live and act

Manfred Bues studied economics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1958 to 1962 , focusing on data processing issues. He then worked in Switzerland as a systems analyst and programmer for Bâloise from 1963 to 1966 . Thereafter, Bues held the position of Chief Information Officer of the German branch of The Gillette Company until 1968 . He then performed the same task until 1971 for VSM Vereinigte Schmirgel- und Maschinen-Fabriken . Manfred Bues was then Chief Financial Officer of Wilhelm Weber GmbH & Co. KG in Esslingen am Neckar . From 1985 to 1994 he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Steinbeis Center of Technology Transfer.

Manfred Bues spoke out early on against centralized data processing in companies: “Although a large number of data processors are now clear that economically sensible information processing can only be implemented in the medium term using microcomputers, there are still many IT managers who are responsible for this development counteracted braking. "

In 1973 Bues was appointed professor of business informatics at Furtwangen University, where he taught until 2007. At the Vietnamese-German University in Ho Chi Minh City , Manfred Bues was the founding dean of the Faculty of Economics in 2009 and has taught there as a professor for “Business Information Systems” ever since. He commutes between Germany and Vietnam.

In addition to his professional activity, Manfred Bues is particularly interested in the cultural exchange between Europe and Asia. He was chairman of the Lama und Li Gotami Govinda Foundation until he was replaced by Friedhelm Köhler in 2016 .
