The circle is a magazine founded in 1956 by Hans-Ulrich Rieker and Wilhelm A. Rink , which is dedicated to the topics of Tantra and Buddhism and also reports on activities and projects of the Arya Maitreya Mandala .

history

When a branch of Ārya Maitreya Maṇḍala emerged in Europe in 1952, Harry Pieper started the journal Licht des Dharma, which was published in Berlin . Der Kreis emerged from this magazine , which was founded in 1956 by Hans-Ulrich Rieker, inspired by the Buddhist writer and artist Lama Anagarika Govinda and editorially headed by Wilhelm A. Rink. Thereafter, from 1970 Karl-Heinz Gottmann and from 1999 to 2015 Armin Gottmann worked as editor of the magazine. The cultural anthropologist Birgit Zotz has been responsible for the magazine since 2015 .

Like its predecessor, the Light of Dharma , the circle gained notoriety in specialist circles as soon as it was founded because the magazine at that time still provided rare information about the Vajrayana . Pre-reprints of Lama Anagarika Govinda's books such as Creative Meditation and Multidimensional Consciousness and The Inner Structure of the I Ching in the 1970s and 1980s contributed to the wider circulation of the magazine.

The place of publication has changed several times since 1956. After Wiesbaden , Meersburg-Daisendorf , Tübingen , Stuttgart , Kelkheim and Überlingen , the magazine comes out today in Pforzheim . The publisher also changed several times. At the beginning of the publication this was the "Brotherhood of Germany of the Order Ārya Maitreya Maṇḍala" and from 1970 the "Branch West Europe" of the same order, the circle has been published since the 1990s by the Lama and Li Gotami Govinda Foundation , which is dedicated to the spiritual Dedicated legacy of Lama Anagarika Govinda and his wife Li Gotami Govinda .
