Manfred Degen (born October 13, 1939 in Elbing , East Prussia) is a German SPD politician .

education and profession

Manfred Degen completed an apprenticeship as a mining apprentice at the Auguste Victoria Marl colliery from 1954 to 1957 , which he completed with the miner's examination in 1957. Afterwards he was a teacher until 1960 while also attending the mountain pre-school. From 1960 to 1964 he worked in the laboratory of the chemical works in Hüls . The attendance at the vocational school followed in 1964 with the special examination for talented students. From 1964 to 1967 he studied at the Pädagogische Hochschule Ruhr in Dortmund. From 1967 to 1973 he was a teacher at the elementary school, then secondary school in Marl-Hamm. In addition to his job, Degen took an additional course at the University of Dortmund from 1973 to 1974, which he completed as a qualified teacher. From 1973 to 1990 he was head of department at the VHS Marl, “die insel”.

Manfred Degen has been a member of the SPD since 1964. From 1968 to 1970 he was Juso chairman in the Marl city association. He has been a member of the SPD local association Marl-Drewer-Nord since 1986. Here he was chairman from 1978 to 1986. His other political functions: Deputy chairman of the SPD city association in Marl from 1974 to 1976, its chairman from 1984 to 1996 and on the board since 1970. From 1992 to 1998 he was a member of the SPD district committee for West Westphalia. Until 1991 Degen was a member of the district board of the working group for social democrats in the education sector in the SPD, district of Western Westphalia, from 1991 to 2000 chairman of the working group. Since 1978 he has been a member of the AfB subdistrict board and since 2000 a member of the AfB national board. From 1969 to 1973 he was a member of the city council of Marl.

Degen has been a member of the GEW since 1965 and a member of the AWO since 1969. He has also been a member of the non-profit comprehensive school since 1974.

Manfred Degen was a directly elected member of the 11th , 12th and 13th state parliaments of North Rhine-Westphalia from May 31, 1990 to June 2, 2005 .
