Mani Menon

Mani Menon (born July 9, 1948 in Trissur , India ) is an American urologist and director of the Vattikuti Urology Institute at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit , Michigan . Menon is recognized as a pioneer in the development of robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer patients .

education and profession

Menon received his medical degree from the University of Madras in Chennai , India. He received his specialist training as a urologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital . There he worked with Patrick Walsh. At the age of 34, Menon became the chief urologist at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester , Massachusetts . In 1997, Menon became Senior Consultant Urologist at Henry Ford Hospital.

Robot-assisted surgery

In 2001, the urology department of Henry Ford Hospital received a $ 20 million donation from the Vattikuti Foundation. The donation enabled the establishment of the Vattikuti Urology Institute and research into minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer. The robot-assisted prostatectomy developed by Menon was called the Vattikuti Institute Prostatectomy . Menon has performed nearly 4,000 robotic prostatectomies and is recognized as a globally recognized authority on the robotic surgical treatment of prostate cancer.

Awards and works

In May 2008 Menon received the prestigious BC Roy Award from the President of India for his achievements in the field of urology. In 1990 Menon received the Gold Cystoscope Award. He is the director of the International Robotic Urology Symposium IRUS . Menon is the author of more than 300 articles, 400 poster presentations and 90 book chapters, mostly in the field of robot-assisted prostatectomy.
