Mannheim Football Association

The Mannheim Football Association (MFB) was a local football association for the Baden city of Mannheim . At the suggestion of football pioneer Walther Bensemann , the five Mannheim clubs FG 1896 Mannheim , FG Germania 1897 Mannheim, FG Union 1897 Mannheim , FC Viktoria 1897 Mannheim and Mannheimer FV 1898 founded on June 11, 1899 in the restaurant "Liedertafel" in K 2, 32 den MFB.

The five founding clubs also took part in the first championship of the Mannheim Football Association in the 1899/00 season. This was played in a division and in a simple round of points. The point games began on October 30, 1899 and ended on November 19. The first Mannheim master was the FG 1896 Mannheim in a superior manner. In the 1900/01 season, no championship games were played, as there were disputes in the MFB over the interpretation of rules and the question of amateur status.

In November 1901 the association area of the MFB was extended to the Mannheim area and the name of the association was changed to Mannheimer Fußball-Bund, Wettspielverband Pfalzgau . Clubs from Speyer (Viktoria and Pfalz), Seckenheim (FG 1898) and Frankenthal ( FC 1900 ) joined the federal government shortly afterwards, which also enabled a second division to be created. Nevertheless, the interest of those involved in championship games in both classes was very low and the point games dragged on. Furthermore, the game ban of the Association of South German Football Associations (VSFV) against non-association clubs was hovering over the members of the VSFV, as not all clubs in the Federation also belonged to the South German Association.

In mid-March 1902, the point games were canceled in both classes. At this time, the FG 1896 Mannheim led the table of the 1st class after four of six games played. In the late spring or summer of 1902, the Mannheimer Fußball-Bund, Wettspielverband Pfalzgau, finally dissolved. It was not until the 1903/04 season that the game was continued in Mannheim and the surrounding area, when the VSFV and SFV created the “Pfalzgau” subdistrict in the northern district and championships were held in an A and B class.
