history

The Mannheimer Liedertafel was founded in 1840 by Jakob Rauscher, court opera singer at the Mannheim Court and National Theater , as a male choir. Since the women's choir was founded in 1929, the Liedertafel has performed as a mixed choir . Today it consists of three choirs, the mixed choir, the boys ensemble and the women's chamber choir Carré Chanté.

The mixed choir

The mixed choir of the Mannheimer Liedertafel, led by Ferdinand Dehner, consists of around 35 singers between the ages of 40 and 70+ and is dedicated to a broad repertoire of classical secular and sacred choral literature, smaller polyphonic choral compositions and folk songs from all over the world. In addition to the annual autumn concert, the choir performs at various other small events.

Ferdinand Dehner

Ferdinand Dehner is studying music to become a teacher at the Musikhochschule Mannheim with a major in conducting and a bachelor's degree in singing. He performs regularly with his a cappella sextet EnsembleDing in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and sings in several semi-professional choirs in Germany such as the Cologne Chamber Choir Consono and the Stuttgart Chamber Choir Figure Humaine.

Ferdinand Dehner has been leading the mixed choir of the Mannheimer Liedertafel since early 2020.

The young ensemble

The young ensemble of the Mannheimer Liedertafel, founded in 2002, consists of around 25 singers who, under the direction of Andreas Fulda, mainly deal with secular and sacred a cappella music from the 16th to 20th centuries. In addition to motets, mass settings, madrigals, romantic choir songs and folk songs from various countries, the repertoire also includes some pieces from pop and jazz literature.

Andreas Fulda

After completing his state examination in music teaching (major in piano / singing / English), Andreas Fulda graduated from the Mannheim University of Music with a degree in conducting with a focus on choral conducting. He is currently studying for a master's degree in choral conducting in Saarbrücken.

Since 2018 he has directed the Young Ensemble of the Mannheimer Liedertafel and has worked with the Heidelberg Cantata Orchestra and the Young Chamber Philharmonic Rhein-Neckar, among others. His area of activity also includes assistance and cooperation in the region, most recently with three large Heidelberg student choirs and the Hochtaunus youth choir. As a singer he is active in several renowned ensembles such as the Ensemble Vocapella Limburg, the Chorus Musicus Köln and the chamber choir of the Mannheim University of Music.

Carré Chanté

Since 2017, the ambitious women's chamber choir Carré Chanté, a group of women with different musical backgrounds, has been performing under the direction of Janette Schmid. Many of the singers are former or current students at the Mannheim University of Music and some are now working as music teachers. Others are active in non-musical areas, but have many years of experience as singers in various demanding choirs. The repertoire consists mainly of classical choral literature from different epochs; from the renaissance to the romantic to contemporary pieces. Occasionally and on occasion, jazz / pop arrangements are also included in the program.

Janette Schmid

After studying music in school at the Mannheim University of Music, Janette Schmid completed a master's degree in children's and youth choir conducting at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Since 2014 she has been teaching children's choir conducting at the Ludwigsburg University of Education. As a singer she is active in the vocal ensemble Filsbach Consort and in the Junge Kammerchor Rhein Neckar.

In 2017 Janette Schmid founded the women's chamber choir Carré Chanté of the Mannheimer Liedertafel, which she has been leading with great pleasure ever since.
