Manta Manaus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The “Multimodal Manta-Manaus Axis ” project is a previously unrealized and unfunded plan to establish a trade route between Manta in Ecuador and Manaus in Brazil . It should enable the transport of Brazilian goods to the Ecuadorian coast in order to serve Asia and the United States of America from there ; In the opposite direction, Ecuadorian goods should be able to be transported to Brazil and Europe.

The project is intended to connect the ports of Esmeraldas and Manta on the Pacific with Manaus on the Amazon and thus subsequently with the Atlantic. With the appropriate infrastructure, the 800 kilometers overland route from the port of Manta to the port of Puerto Francisco de Orellana (still barely developed for freight traffic) would take 48 hours. There the containers would be shipped and transported within 10 days over the Napo River through Peru into the Amazon to Manaus.

To realize the project, Ecuadorian ports and connecting roads (from Manta via Quevedo to Latacunga in the Andes and from there into the Amazon lowlands ) would have to be expanded. The financing of the expansion of the port of Manta is secured, whereas the financing of the remaining transport infrastructure is not secured.
