Manuel Alonso Martínez (born January 1, 1827 in Burgos , † January 13, 1891 in Madrid ) was a Spanish politician and minister .

Life

Alonso Martínez studied law . He then practiced as a lawyer. In 1854 he became a member of the Cortes , in which he joined the Liberals.

From 1855 to 1856 he was Minister of Public Works under Baldomero Espartero and Leopoldo O'Donnell ; From 1863 to 1864 he held the same office under Miraflores. After the September Revolution of 1868 he took over the Ministry of Justice under Sagasta and in 1874 under Serrano . He held the same portfolio in 1881–1883 ​​and 1886–1888, again under Sagasta. The reform of the criminal law during this time was his work. In 1889 he was elected President of the Chamber.
