Manuel Fernandes Tomás

Manuel Fernandes Tomás (born June 30, 1771 in Figueira da Foz , † November 19, 1822 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese lawyer and statesman .

He was the pioneer of the Liberal Revolution in Portugal and co-author of the constitution of 1821, the first democratic constitution in Portugal.

In his hometown Figueira a monument was erected to him in 1911, on Praça 8 de Maio .
