Manuel Herrera y Obes (* 1806 ; † 1890 ) was a Uruguayan politician and diplomat .

Life

Herrera y Obes, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , was Foreign Minister of Uruguay several times . He exercised his first term of office during the Guerra Grande in the so-called Gobierno de la Defensa , the defense government, from August 11, 1847 to February 16, 1852. In the following period he then took over the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1855 and 1886 at six further intervals. These were the following periods

  • August 31, 1855 - September 12, 1855
  • August 31, 1868 - September 12, 1868
  • September 30, 1870 - September 28, 1872
  • March 8, 1882 - October 11, 1882
  • December 12, 1882 - March 1, 1886
  • May 28, 1886 - October 30, 1886

In addition, Herrera y Obes held the position of Rector of the Universidad de la República from 1850 to 1852 and from 1854 to 1859 .
