Manuel Jorge Marmelo

Manuel Jorge Marmelo (born 1971 in Porto ) is a Portuguese writer and journalist.

Life

He has been a journalist since 1989, particularly for the Portuguese daily Público (until 2012), and has received numerous awards for his work.

In 1996 his first novella O homem que julgou morrer de amor , the play O casal virtual and a first story in the anthology A cidade sonhada with texts by numerous Porto- based writers appeared. His second book, Portugués guapo y matador (1997), was adapted for the theater in 1999. He achieved his first public success in 1999 with the novel As mulheres deviam vir com livro de instruções , the 10th edition of which is available in Portugal and was translated into Spanish in 2005 and into Italian in 2008. In 2005 he received the Grande Prémio do Conto Camilo Castelo Branco for the volume of short stories O Silêncio de um homem só . In February 2014 he was awarded the Prémio Literário Casino da Póvoa for the novel Uma mentira mil vezes repetida . The book was translated into German under the title A Lie Repeated a Thousand Times.
