Manuel Mota (musician)

Manuel Mota (born October 22, 1970 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese guitarist who is active in the field of jazz, experimental and improvisational music.

Mota started playing the guitar at the age of fifteen. He was initially interested in blues before turning to experimental music and jazz in the late 1980s. He experimented with the prepared guitar and played minimalist drone music under the influence of Phil Niblock .

He also studied architecture and founded the Headlights label in the late 1990s . In 1995 Environment Analysis Report was the first of a series of his own albums. He also worked as a member of the band Acção Total (with Craig Flanagin , Margarida Garcia and Michelle Dorvilli ) and performed with musicians such as Tetuzi Akiyama , Chris Corsano , Lukas Ligeti , Mattin , Donald Miller , Gino Robair and Ernesto Rodrigues .
