Ernesto Rodrigues

Ernesto Rodrigues (born August 29, 1959 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese violinist , music producer and composer who is active in the field of free jazz , improvisational music and new music .

Life

Rodrigues attended the Academia de Amadores de Música from 1973 and then studied violin and composition at the Conservatório Nacional with Emmanuel Nunes , Paulo Brandão , Pedro Figueiredo , Pedro M. Rocha and Eurico Carrapatoso . He also attended courses and workshops by Jorge Peixinho and Constança Capdeville .

From the beginning he was interested in improvised and composed contemporary music (e.g. by Cornelius Cardew , Gerhard Stäbler , Nikolaus Gerszewski and Phill Niblock ) and composition techniques such as aleatoric and graphic notation . He uses electronic music as well as prepared instruments and works with microtonal sound systems.

Multimedia art

In the field of multimedia art, Rodrigues worked with the sculptors Carlos Mota and Rogério Silva , the dancers Isabel Valverde , Ana Galan , Anna Pasztor , Valérie Métivier and Ana Moura and the writers Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Manuel Cintra . He composed film music for the directors Rui Simões and Edgar Feldman .

Jazz and improvisation music

In the field of jazz and improvisation music were u. a. Carlos Zíngaro , Margarida Garcia , Manuel Mota , Ulrich Krieger , Gabriel Paiuk , Jean-Luc Guionnet , Toshihiro Koike , Taku Unami , Masafumi Ezaki , Masahiko Okura , Christine Sehnaoui , Wade Matthews , Ingar Zach , Liz Allbee and Michael Thieke are his partners. He himself founded the groups Metropolis , Fromage Digital , Lautari Consort and the Variable Geometry Orchestra (2000) and in 1999 the record label Creative Sources Recordings for electroacoustic and experimental music. He works regularly with his son, the cellist Guilherme Rodrigues .
