Eurico Carrapatoso

Eurico Carrapatoso (born February 15, 1962 in Alvites , Mirandela district ) is a Portuguese composer.

Education and career

Eurico Carrapatoso graduated in history from the University of Porto in 1985 . In the same year he began studying music with Borges Coelho, Fernando Lapa and Cândido Lima, and from 1988 composition with Constança Capdeville. He completed his course with Jorge Peixinho at the State Conservatory (now ESTC ) with honors.

Eurico Carrapatoso has taught composition at the Escola Superior de Música and the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon. Since 1989 he has been Professor of Analysis and Composition at the Lisbon Conservatory.

His works are performed by major Portuguese ensembles and orchestras in the country, as well as in other European and American countries.

Prizes and awards

  • In 1998 he represented Portugal at the Tribune internationale des compositeurs of UNESCO (with Cinco melodias em forma de Montemel )
  • 1998 Lopes-Graça Prize
  • 1999 again at the Tribune internationale des compositeurs (with Deploração sobre a morte de Jorge Peixinho )
  • 1999 Francisco de Lacerda Prize
  • 2001 Nacional Identity Award
  • 2004 Carrapatoso was the Portuguese president to Comendador da Ordem do Infante Dom Henrique appointed
  • 2006 Tribune internationale des compositeurs (with O meu poemário infantil )
