Ana Cláudia Moura Pereira (* 17th September 1979 in Santarém ) is a Portuguese fado - singer .

Career

Moura became internationally known in 2003 with the release of her album Guarda-me a Vida na Mão (Eng .: Keep my life in your hand), after she had previously sung in various Lisbon fado halls. Her breakthrough came in 2005 when she made her first appearance with the musician António Pinto Basto on the Portuguese television program Fados de Portugal .

The 2007 album Para Além da Saudade (German: Beyond the longing) contains the Fados Os Búzios (German: The mussels) and O Fado da Procura (German: The Fado of Search). This album was awarded a 3x platinum record in Portugal for at least 60,000 copies sold.

Moura became known on the international music stage when she performed with the Rolling Stones in Lisbon's Estádio José Alvalade XXI in 2007 and sang the song No Expectations with Mick Jagger . She also participated with two titles on the two albums of the tribute project The Rolling Stones Project - in which international musicians from different genres reinterpreted their songs with Rolling Stones musicians.

Prince visited Moura in Lisbon in July 2009 and invited her on stage as a guest singer at his concert there. He suggested a musical cooperation, but this was not realized due to contractual obligations with different record companies. In September 2010 she performed with the hr big band in St. Wendel and Darmstadt . In the same year she received the Globo de Ouro for best singer in her home country .

On the occasion of Prince's death on April 21, 2016, a tribute evening in honor of the musician took place on October 13, 2016 in Saint Paul ( US state Minnesota ) in the Xcel Energy Center , on which Moura also performed.

In May 2018 Moura performed the song Fado Loucura after Mariza in the opening program at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

In 2012, Moura's album Desfado was released , which expanded the boundaries of Fado. Larry Klein , who had been a fan of Moura for some time, produced this album. It was recorded in the historic Henson Studios in Los Angeles with their Portuguese musicians - including Mário Costa - as well as with guest musicians such as Herbie Hancock , Tim Ries , Ângelo Freire , David Piltch , Dean Parks and Jay Bellerose . The Fado-atypical instrumentation produced a sound similar to jazz, which nevertheless remained connected to Fado through the Portuguese guitar and the singing. Texts were set to music, some of which were Moura's own compositions, some of which were fado classics and fados from Portuguese cinema, as well as contributions by other authors, including Pedro Abrunhosa , Miguel Araújo and Aldina Duarte . A cover version of A Case of You by Joni Mitchell is also among the 17 tracks on the album. It peaked at number one on the Portuguese sales charts, went 6x platinum and stayed in the charts for 294 weeks, including 127 weeks in the top 10.

Moura

Her album Moura , released at the end of 2015, she recorded again with Klein at Henson Studios. In addition to various guest musicians - including the drummer Vinnie Colaiuta - the Cuban singing colleague Omara Portuondo was a guest and sang a duet with her. The album often moved away from classical fado and showed slight influences from Portuguese folklore in rhythm and atmosphere, but also from rock and jazz. With her singing and the Portuguese guitar, however, essential Fado elements remained present. Texts and music came from, among others, José Eduardo Agualusa , Pedro Abrunhosa and Sara Tavares , while the title and cover recalled the numerous legends of the mystical, enchanting and enchanted Maurin ( Moura ) from medieval Portugal of the Reconquista . The album was presented by Rádio Comercial and debuted at number two on the Portuguese charts, later reaching number one, going three times platinum and staying in the charts for 162 weeks, including 71 weeks in the top 10.
