João Paulo Esteves da Silva

João Paulo Esteves da Silva (born May 17, 1961 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese pianist and composer who is particularly interested in jazz music .

Life

Esteves da Silva completed a classical piano training at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia , at the National Conservatory in Lisbon and from 1984 for four years with a scholarship from the Portuguese government in Paris. In 1986 and 1989 he gave concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York.

In Portugal he became known as a composer and arranger for musicians such as Pedro Ayres Magalhães , Cristina Branco , Vitorino and Sérgio Godinho . His main interest, however, was jazz music, and he founded his own trio with the double bass player Zé Eduardo and the drummer José Martins .

He worked with musicians such as John Stubblefield , Graham Haynes , Hamid Drake , Frank Colon , Claudio Puntin , Steffen Schorn , Michael Riessler , Jean-Luc Fillon and Peter Epstein and in a duo with the singer Paula Oliveira . In 1995 his debut album Serra sem fim appeared with the group Almas e Danças .
