Carlos Bechegas

Carlos Bechegas (* 1957 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese jazz flutist and composer .

Live and act

Bechegas attended art school and has been teaching full-time as an art teacher in the public school system since 1975. He has also been active in the jazz scene as a saxophonist since 1977, had his own quartet, was a member of a swing orchestra and played in various jazz and jazz-rock bands. In the 1980s he was a member of Carlos Zingaro's Trio Plexus and participated in several folk projects. He studied music at the Lisbon Conservatory of Music and took part in various workshops a. a. with Steve Potts , Kent Carter , Steve Lacy , Evan Parker , Derek Bailey , Richard Teitelbaum and Peter Kowald . After completing his flute and composition studies in 1987, he switched to the flute as the main instrument and began to work on his electro-acoustic solo project, in which he accompanied himself with a midi converter. He also played in the Global Jungle Orquestra with Hamid Drake , John Stubblefield , Graham Haynes and Carlos Zingaro. He has appeared in various duo and trio projects with Peter Kowald, Michel Edelin, Derek Bailey, Reuben Radding , William Parker , Fred Van Hove / Baby Sommer , Phil Minton / Han Bennink and Ernesto Rodrigues .

In 1997 he released his debut album Projects: Flute Solos / Movement Sounds on Leo Records . In the early 2000s he founded the label forward.rec , on which u. a. his duo projects with Michel Edelin , Alexander von Schlippenbach , Barry Guy , Reuben Radding , Joëlle Léandre , and his trio recordings with André Goudbeek / Peter Jacquemyn and Carlos Santos / Etienne Rolin have been released.
