Manuel Pio Correia

Manuel Pio Correia (* 1874 in Porto , † 1934 in Paris ) was a Portuguese botanist .

Life

Pio Manuel Correia Manoel was the son of the publisher and bookseller Ignacio Correia, he married Mercedes Veloso Pio Correia; her son was Manuel Pio Correia Júnior . The natural sciences researched by Manuel Pio Correia included botany and geology . In his studies he devoted himself to applied botany, in particular to the scientific, economic and industrial methods of plant production . He was employed in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro . He wrote the six-volume Dicionário das Plantas Úteis do Brasil e das Exóticas Cultivadas (reference work on Brazilian cultivated plants), which was published by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture from 1926. His bibliography includes around 150 works. He was a member of more than a dozen scientific institutions. When he died, he was a research fellow at the Natural History Museum in Paris .
