Manvydas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to tradition, Manvydas (also: Mantvydas , Polish: Monwid ; * around 1288; † probably on February 2, 1348 ) was the eldest son of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas († 1341) and the progenitor of the Manvydai family named after him . Hardly any reliable facts are known about his life, but it seems certain that he inherited Kernavė and Slonim after the death of his father . He probably died with his brother Narimantas in the Battle of the Strėva , which ended in a serious Lithuanian defeat by the army of the Teutonic Order .
