MapR is a manufacturer of software in the Apache Hadoop environment .

MapR was founded in 2008 by John Schroeder. The start-up capital was $ 9 million. The total capital of several financing rounds amounts to 194 million US dollars.

The Hadoop distribution from MapR offers additional options in the areas of security, reliability, performance and user-friendliness. In addition to Hadoop, there is an integration of Apache Drill , Solr and in-memory processing of data with Spark . One version of their Converged Data Platform is offered free of charge, and two others are available on a subscription basis. More than ninety percent of sales are generated through subscriptions. The highest quality version of their Hadoop distribution includes a rewritten HBase , with HBase being anchored directly in the file system.

On September 8, 2016, Matt Mills (previously Oracle ) became the new CEO.

MapR has set a record for the shortest sort on a Google platform.

In 2019, MapR ran into financial difficulties, and in August of that year, the sale of MapR's technology platform and intellectual property to Hewlett Packard Enterprise was announced.
