The maqui berries or the Chilean grapes are the small black fruits or berries of the maqui tree ( Aristotelia chilensis (Molina) Stuntz ), which belongs to the Elaeocarpaceae family and grows mainly in Chile . There the fruits are considered a delicacy. Their taste is reminiscent of blueberries . In some cases juice is obtained from it, from which a wine can also be made. Or they are used dried like grapes.

Maqui berries contain indole alkaloids such as B. Aristotelian and Makonin .
