Marçal Aquino (* 1958 in Amparo ) is a Brazilian writer, journalist and screenwriter.

Life

Marçal Aquino was born in the state of São Paulo . He worked as a reporter and editor for the newspapers O Estado de São Paulo and Jornal da Tarde . Since the mid-1990s, there has been a close collaboration with director Beto Brant, who filmed three of his works, including O Invasor (The Intruder) , which was shown at the Berlinale in 2002 and gained international recognition. He is currently working as a freelance journalist and contributor to Época São Paulo magazine. Marçal Aquino has made a name for himself as an author of novels, short stories and children's books.

Awards

Aquino received several prizes and awards for his scripts:

  • In 2003 and 2005 he was nominated for the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix. He won it in 2007 and 2008.
  • In 2006 he won the Crystal Lens Award at the Miami Brazilian Film Festival
  • In 2008 he received the APCA Trophy from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics Awards
