María Elena Sarría

María Elena Sarría ( María Elena Sarría Díaz; born September 14, 1954 in Cienfuegos ) is a former Cuban shot putter .

In 1974 she won the Central American and Caribbean Games and in 1975 the Pan American Games in Mexico City . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she was eleventh.

In 1979 she defended her title at the Pan American Games in San Juan and finished fifth at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal . The following year she came in eleventh place at the Olympic Games in Moscow .

In 1981 she won the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships and was third at the World Cup in Rome . The following year she won the Central American and Caribbean Games.

In 1983 she won the Pan American Games in Caracas for the third time in a row and was eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki .

At the end of her international career, she won silver at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis in 1987 .

In 1982 she became the US champion. She set her personal best of 20.61 m on July 22, 1982 in Havana .
