Marakabei (also Ha Marakabei or Marakabeis ) is a place in the Maseru district in Lesotho .

geography

Marakabei is located in the middle of Lesotho between the capital Maseru and the district capital Thaba-Tseka . The place is located above the western bank of the Senqunyane at around 2000 meters above sea level. To the west is the God Help Me Pass, to the east is the Cheche Pass. The A3 trunk road from the Lowlands in the west to Thaba-Tseka runs through Marakabei. The Marakabei Lodge is located on the road bridge over the Senqunyane. The river here forms the border with the Thaba-Tseka district . The next larger town to the east is Mantsonyane .

The King of Lesothos, Moshoeshoe II. (1938-1996), died in a traffic accident near Marakabei.
