description

The source outlet

The Maramec Spring is the origin of the Meramec River , a 350 km long tributary of the Mississippi and the fifth largest spring in the state. The middle bed is 4300 liters per second, but may also to 22,000 l / s increase.

The karst spring is located in Maramec Spring Park, where there are other springs and caves.

The park is well known for its karst landscape. There is a trout breeding facility at Maramec Spring. The spring itself is privately owned but is open to the public. In October 1971, she was a National Natural Landmark ( natural monument shown). Nearby are the ruins of a historic ironworks that used the water power available there in the past.
