Marc Bernard (born September 6, 1900 in Nîmes ; † November 15, 1983 ibid) was a French writer. In 1942 he received the Prix Goncourt for his novel Pareils á des enfants .
Marc Bernard came from the working class, was a messenger, worker and from 1924 a railroad worker. From 1920 to 1922 he did his military service in Upper Silesia . He was a member of the communist party . In 1928, thanks to his acquaintance with Jean Paulhan , he was able to publish his first surrealist-inspired novel Zig-zag , which attracted the attention of Henri Barbusse . In 1930 he was a literary critic for the communist magazine Le Monde and in 1932 he co-founded a group of proletarian writers (as they called themselves).
In 1940 he married Else Reichmann, an Austrian Jew who had fled Austria. He also published with her. After her death in 1969 he dedicated a number of books to her.
In addition to novels and short stories, he also published theater. He worked regularly for the radio and the magazines Le Figaro ( Figaro littéraire ) and Nouvelles Littéraires .
